                                            **DRAFT**

**Chapter 1: Beginnings**

I didn’t ask for this- It just happened

So… I woke up with superpowers

You may be saying *“Wow\! You’re so lucky\!”*

I’d say you’re completely wrong

As soon as I woke up I knew something was wrong

My location- well how do I put this? It felt uncertain, like I didn’t know exact where I was

Well I knew where I was- In my bedroom

But I also felt like if I lost focus on the room I wouldn’t be there- and I was right

I focused on the living room and tried to forget about my surroundings; and suddenly I **was** in the living room.

I looked around confused, My mom sat nearby eyes wide, and mouth agape staring at me

I just stand there dumbfounded, unsure of what just happened- or what I should do

Along with my utter and pure confusion; I feel something else- Vertigo

I wobble for a second and then the feeling passes and I straighten my posture

I look at my mom, who still is silent from the shock *“Did i just… teleport?”* I ask

She nods, dumbfounded *“I- I think so”*

My mind races *How? Why? What?* Every possible question crossed my mind all at once

We both stand there, just standing in shock for seconds? Minutes? I have no idea.

I just felt- confused? Unsure? Something else?

Before I could fully process what was happening

I hear it- A knock at the door

I walk over, and slowly open it-

What I see starts a storm brewing in my gut, I’d never felt the feeling before, but I recognized it- pure, utter, dread.

Standing at the threshold of the door are two agents- a man and a woman both holding large guns to their chests

When I open the door they tense and raise their guns in my vague direction

Then I see it- A small patch embroidered onto their clothes “Person of interest containment unit”

Then- I bolt

I just run, straight past them

They don’t take long to react; and take off in pursuit

The pursuit didn’t last long- they were fast

One of them- the girl catches up easily and grabs my shoulder

That small action was just enough to make me trip and fall straight on my face

Great start, right?

Then she pins me down, and pulls out a pair of handcuffs

I tried to get away- I really did

But this girl was ridiculously strong for her size, and I just couldn’t escape

I lay there out of breath, struggling to escape her grip, while she calmly handcuffs me, the cold metal of the handcuffs causing me to shiver

And now it wasn’t just dread I felt, I was full on panicking

I try to turn my head around and look at her, but her grasp doesn’t allow me to

I decided to try to reason with her *“W- Why are you doing this?”*

She doesn’t respond for a moment, seeming to consider what to say *“You don’t need to know that”*

I stay silent after that, she probably wouldn’t answer me anyways

After she secures the handcuffs she hauls me up, forcing me to walk

I don’t have to walk far, we arrive at their vehicle; A large heavily armoured prisoner transport

She pulls me into the back with her and shoves me down into a seat

She pulls straps from either side, thick, metal, cold and attaches them

The straps are cold, hard, uncomfortable. I can’t move at all now, I’m completely Immobile; helpless.

Then she sits down across from me, putting on a much smaller, and probably much more comfortable seat belt

Then the armoured truck- starts moving.

The woman stays quiet, I don’t see the man; I guess he’s the one driving

The tension in the air is almost tangible, I’m still terrified, but try to compose myself

I look her dead in the eyes, suppressing a smirk. *“So… are you single?”*

She looks back at me, her eyes widening in surprise. Her once cold, professional attitude utterly destroyed *“W- What did you say?”*

It’s getting harder to suppress my grin and I smirk slightly *“I asked If you were single”*

Her face reddens and she looks away confused, in shock. An overwhelming flood of emotions from utter confusion to affection flashing across her face in an instant

*“Come on–It won’t hurt anything to tell me”* I tease, a grin appearing on my face

She stays completely silent for a moment, then mutters something, so quietly it’s barely audible *“yes…”*

My grin widens *"I asked if you were single. Because, you know, if I’m going to be illegally detained, I’d at least like to know if it’s by someone cute **and** single."*

She stamers trying to regain her composure *“This- This isn’t illegal”*

I chuckle, somehow actually chuckle *“So kidnapping is legal now?”*

She’s regained her professional attitude now *“This isn’t kidnapping\!”*

I smirk slightly *“Then what is it?”*

She contemplates for just a moment, but I can still tell she has to think about it *“This is- This is detaining dangerous people…”*

I smirk, Actually smirk *“Dangerously handsome?”*

And well… She didn’t seem to like that one, she slaps me, just plain up slaps me across the face, hard enough that it probably left a mark

*“Oww…”* I complain

*“You deserved it”* She says, a grin playing at the sides of her mouth

I stare at her for a moment before speaking again *“Maybe just a little bit”*

Then I decide to figure out what in the world is happening

*“So…”* I ask *“Where exactly are you taking me?”*

Her expression coldens again *“A containment facility”* The emotion draining from her face

*“Containment facility?”* I ask questioningly, the feeling of desperation returning

She looks at me, more seriously than I knew possible *“To be contained”*

*“Contained? For how long?”* I ask, my voice extremely questioning and confused, with a hint of panic baked in

She doesn’t answer for a moment then says something that makes my heart drop *“Forever”.*

**Chapter 2: Containment**

*“Forever\!?”* I yell at her, I try to lunge but the straps restrain me.

*“Yes, forever”* she says, her tone shameful with a hint of regret

*“Really\!? You can’t just do that\!”* I yell at her, extremely angry

*“Actually we can”* She says her voice still a bit remorseful

*“How?”* I question still trying to get her

*“Because we’re a government corporation”* She says, her tone serious, but the remorse remains.

I groan, just groan in frustration, but then- I remember one very important and obvious fact: The power I have is teleportation

So, I ignore the rumbling of the armoured truck, the humming of the engine, everything, and concentrate. Concentrate on home, Concentrating on the living room

Then… Suddenly, not as disorienting this time. I’m home, in my living room.

But then… Police, It had to be police

If I developed powers and a government corporation took me away, of course police would be swarming my house.

I stand there for a second before everyone is staring at me

It takes a matter of seconds for dozens of guns to be pointed at me

Great, just great. I thought I escaped a dangerous situation just to teleport into an even more dangerous one.

They just stand there, pointing their guns at me, like someone teleporting into a room is somehow normal to them

I look around nervously, hoping to see an exit route

But no dice, I’m trapped

Wait? Wasn’t I just in the same exact position a few seconds ago?

I concentrate again, this time on somewhere **No police** would ever go

It’s easier this time and I barely feel the effects

And suddenly- I’m in a *just slightly* less dangerous situation

I appear in the most dangerous place for any normal person–but by far the safest for me right now- The Headquarters of “The Resistance” a group of people with powers who protect each other from the reach of the government.

I appear, and most of the people in the room, one looks over and notices my confusion in the chaos *“You new?”*

I look at him, my face having two emotions, Confusion and relief *“I guess you could say that”*

He raises an eyebrow *“You guess?”*

*“Well… I kind of just teleported in with no idea what I was getting into, I just knew I was getting away from the government”* I say quickly, the feelings of confusion and relief lingering on my face

*“Oh cool, The admissions office is over there”* he points to a room to my left, not even batting an eye when I mention teleportation.

I look at the building he pointed to and walked in.

The building was in chaos–Is what I would say if it didn’t look exactly like the DMV

I walk up to a desk with the label “New entrants” above it, and a lady hands me a stack of papers

Apparently even in the most chaotic–downright dangerous corporation on the planet

They still somehow had paperwork

The papers had several fields I just didn’t fill

Like I just arrived, what in hell is “ability class” or “ability level”

But I filled in what I knew; name: Jason reyui, power: teleportation, age: 15

I handed her the papers and the secretary looked them over, muttering to herself

*“They look fine for now, but you need your power to be classified, and be checked for additional abilities”* She says in a nonchalant tone

*“Additional abilities?”* I ask surprised, a look of confusion on my face

*“Yes, additional abilities”* she repeats *“People who develop one ability are likely to develop others”* She says this like she’s explaining it to a complete idiot, which to be fair…

*“Ummmm… And where do I do this classification thingy?”* I ask, still confused

*“Across the street”* She says *“Just ask them for a entrant power classification”*

*“Ok…”* I say as I walk toward the door, the door chime dinging as I walk out

I walk across the street no one paying me much attention, I open the door the the building and continue forward

I walk into a wave of cold, the room is white, sterile, and smells of disinfectant

A person–Who by their white scrubs and stethoscope; I’m guessing he’s the doctor notices me and walks over *“You here for an entrant classification exam?”* he asks, like classifying superhuman powers is an everyday occurrence

*“Huh?”* I say *“Yeah, that’s what it was”*

The doctor motions me to follow *“Follow me, we’ll get you started right away”*

He leads me to the back room, which has several machines around

I start to get nervous *“What is this exactly?”*

*“It’s just some basic tests, I’ll draw some blood, that’s about it”* He says, like he’s asked this question hundreds of times a day–which to be fair he probably was

*“Ok…”* I say, my tone still unsure

The doctor then draws some blood, which stings a bit, but it’s not so bad

Then I just sit there for a few moments as the machines analyze the sample

And one of them actually explodes–explodes, not metaphorically, literally

The doctor jumps back and I flinch away from the explosion

I look at the doctor *“Ummm… what was that?”*

*“That–”* He replied, a grin inching onto his face *“is my day getting a lot more interesting…”*

*“And by that you mean?”* I ask, clearly not understand what he’s saying

*“By that I mean–You overloaded the machine”* He grins *“You are–**Extremely** powerful, and could potentially have hundreds of abilities”*

My face twitches slightly, My eyes wide and mouth agape in disbelief *“You–You’re joking right?”*

*“Nope”* He says, bluntly and **way** too cheerfully

He walks over to a phone on the walls and dials a number, don’t aks me what number–my memory isn’t that good.

But when it finished ringing the doctor said one thing into the receiver before hanging up *“I have a Red level special class entrant”*

I frown *“Red level special class entrant? What does that bogus mean?”* I ask, because I don’t really like being called something, When I don’t know what it means.

The doctor turns back to me his face turning more serious *“That’s the highest level of power, if your power fell into the wrong hands–The entire world would be destroyed.”*

My face is covered with confusion, I decide to get my mind off it *“So is that’s what I need to tell the lady at the admissions office?”*

His expression changes *“Sure, but I’ll accompany you”*

I’m confused by why he wants to come, but I just shrug *“Ok…”* I get up and walk back across the street with the doctor trailing right behind me.

When I enter the admissions office the lady looks up and glances in my direction, and sees the doctor

*“Another Violet level special class?”* She asks, looking interested

I’m about to speak– but the doctor interrupts me *“Red level special class…”*

The secretaries eyes widen *“Red class?”*
*“Yes”* the doctor responds
*“Did you report it?”*
*“Yeah, called it in right before we came over here, they’re on their way”*

The secretary continues *“well that’s rar–”* I cut her off, tired of being ignored

*“Could someone please tell me what you’re talking about? What do you mean report, and what do you mean On their way?”* I ask, dozens of questions nagging at the back of my mind

They both stare at my interruption with annoyance–but another feeling shows deep inside their eyes… Fear. It’s not like I used an overly commanding voice but when I spoke they instantly shut up. Their reaction told me something–I was extremely dangerous.

**Chapter 3: Leadership**

I was still waiting for them to answer, when I heard a soft metallic jingle behind, I turn around to see a stunning–And I Mean **Stunning** young woman walked in, smile softly as if amused.

My breath hitches In my throat–She is captivating, stunning Blue eyes, a tall attention grabbing demeanor, black hair combed back. She was just–**Wow.**

When the Secretary and the doctor see her they snap to attention, like she’s the cruel drill sergeant in a 1980’s comedy

But I don’t stand at attention– just stare

She notices me staring and looks into my eyes chuckling, just chuckling

*“So I take it you’re the Red level special class”* She asks a grin forming on her face

I stay silent, stunned? In shock? I don't know.

But after I moment I finally get out one word *“y- yes”*

She laughs– just laughs, she walks over to me and puts her hand on my shoulder *“You scared or something?”*

*“N- No”* I stutter, tripping over my words, I didn’t expect her to get so close

*“Then what’s wrong?”* She asks, her tone curious, and her eyes seem to be piercing into my skull.

*“You–you’re just so…”* I say, still stuttering over my words

*“I’m so what?”* She asks

I murmur under my breath *“you’re so beautiful”* I say it quietly enough that she’s the only one who can hear me

She pulls backwards slightly, a look of surprise on her face, her cheeks turning slightly red *“That–That’s a new one”*

A grin creeps into the sides of my mouth *“Really? Is the big bad boss flustered?”* I say, my tone playful

She’s trying to regain her composure *“I–I… No, that–that’s not…”*

*“Then what is it?”* I ask, playfully teasing her

“I–I’m just surprised” She says–stuttering over her words, while trying to reason and regain her professional attitude

*“Oh, really?”* I say my tone still teasing, the grin that was creeping into the sides of my mouth now on full display

She tries to regain her composure *“Yes…. Whatever the case; I’m evelyn, Leader of this resistance base.”*

*“Oh–So you’re the big boss lady around here?”* I say–My once small smile now a full out grin.

She sighs *“Yes–I guess you could say that”* She says, it’s overtly clear she’s not used to being teased, She’s an authority figure, she’s used to cowering, not flirting

*“Well then… Evelyn, I’m Jason”* I say, my voice turning slightly more serious, but a smirk still tugs at the sides of my mouth

She’s starting regain her composure *“Well then…Jason, You’re coming with me”*

*“Oh? And why is that?”* I say, my voice questioning but still teasing, my smirk still present *“Like I’m not complaining about going somewhere alone with a hot lady–But…”*

Her composure drains away for a moment, but she regains it quickly *“I–Wasn’t joking, You’re coming with me”*

*“May I ask where?”* I say, my flirtatious attitude starting to disappear. *“To lunch?”*

A smile is still tugging at the sides of her mouth, but she’s mostly recovered her serious attitude *“To your new… Accommodations”*

*“Accommodations?”* I ask, my flirtatious attitude completely gone, the grin that was tugging at the sides of my mouth; gone

*“Yep\!”* She says in an overly cheerful voice, the smile creeping back onto her face *“You’re staying with me, This is going to be **Fun**”*

That part caught me off guard, I wasn’t expecting to stay with a hotty *“I–I’m staying with you?”* I ask nervously

*“Yes”* She replies *“The higher ups saw it fit for me to keep a close eye on you due to your… Potential”* She says Potential like a character in Harry Potter might say voldemort, with a spiteful tone; Like this Potential could destroy the world–Which to be fair, as much as I was told; it could

*“I–I didn’t…”* I say

Great\! Back to stuttering over my words

*“You didn’t… What?”* She asks quizzically

*“I–Didn’t expect to be staying with a hotty”* I say, my voice hesitant, but at the same time a hint of utter joy on the edges

She sighs exhaustedly *“Can you drop the flirty attitude?”*

The grin on the sides of my mouth expand, and I’m full on grinning now *“Why? You seem to be enjoying it”* My tone even more flirty and non-serious now, I’m full-on teasing her now

Her face turns slightly red again *“I–I don’t”* She stutters then stops for a moment *“Look just don’t; you’re harming my professional status”*

Oh, that’s funny, she’s still not admitting it

*“So what you’re saying is I shouldn’t tease you in front of other people?”* I say, trying to get her to admit she doesn’t hate it

*“T–That’s”* She’s still stuttering along

*“That’s what?”* I ask, still pressing

She groans–just groans in annoyance.

Then. She grabs my arm and pulls me out of the building, her cold sudden grip catching me off guard

*“Hey\!”* I complain in surprise

*“No complaining”* She says as she pulls me along behind her

What in hell?

*“Where are you taking me?”* I ask, slightly confused by her sudden action

She doesn’t answer for a moment and I’m highly confused

After a second she sighs and replies *“I already told you”* confuses me for a second before she continues *“Home, I **did** tell you you were staying with me, right?”*

I’m confused by this for a second before I remember her talking something like that earlier

*“You were serious?”* I ask, surprised that she wasn’t joking

*“Yes”* She says in an exasperated tone *“I don’t joke around on such subjects, you’re too powerful, and much, much too young to be given independent housing”*

*Hey\! I’m not a child; And what’s this people keep saying about power? I don’t **Feel** powerful”* I say defensively

You may be thinking that I overreacted, but I’m tired of people saying I’m too young for something, I’m 15 now, I’m more than mature enough.

She snorts at this comment *“You’re 15, maybe rethink that in 3 years. Also you are powerful, you may not know it, but if you accidently used your full power you could destroy the planet”*

*“Destroy the planet”* I ask *“You can’t actually be serious”*

*“Dead serious”* She says, not a drop of doubt in her tone, she says it like it’s pure fact, like it’s a universal constant. She says it like someone might say “Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe”

I just stay silent the rest of the way to her house. I don’t know why, maybe I was in shock? In awe of my own power? Still stunned by her appearance? No idea

**Chapter 4: Power**

We eventually arrive at her house, it’s large, And I mean **Large**, I wouldn’t even call it a house, more of a mansion.

But the first thing I notice–Guards they’re everywhere, walking across the hillside like ants

She notices me staring at the soldiers guarding her house *“You wondering about the guards?”* She asks

*“Yeah, why are there so many?”* I ask curiously

She looks back at me *“That one’s easy; you”*

*“Me?”* I ask curiously, a hint of confusion creeping into my voice

*“Yes, you; You’re extremely dangerous, we need to make sure no one gets in, and you don’t get out”* She says in a cold, serious tone; a hint of empathy creeping into the edges of her voice

*“Dangerous?”* I ask, still confused with fear creeping in

*“Yes, the raw potential of your power could quite literally destroy the world”* She says her voice cold and serious, but at the same time sympathetic

I just stand there my eyes widening, my mouth opening and shutting, but no sound escapes

She stares at me for a moment then says *“You can be in shock later. Come on”* Her tone is still cold, but the empathetic side is creeping in more. She grabs my arm and pulls me towards the mansion. I let her pull me along, but I don’t say anything

Oh crap–this can’t be happening… I can’t actually have that much power can I? She has to be joking–but she said she wasn’t… What in the world is happening? What has my world turned into? What is my life?

We finally get to the entrance of the mansion, It’s a large oak door with metal cross bars

She pushes on it and it opens, it’s old hinges groaning in protest, a rush of cold air moving past us. I slowly walk in behind her cautiously taking in my surroundings

I’m not looking where I’m watching and suddenly run into Evelyn, I grunt in surprise

I start to mumble *“Sorry–”* but stop when I look up to see why she stopped

Probably 10 men in black suits with patches saying “PICU” and in smaller lettering underneath it “Person of interest containment unit”

They were each holding machines guns that could *Most likely* turn me into a pink mist

A storm starts brewing in my gut, *Them* again

Evelyn just stands there for a second before reaching back and grabbing my arm *“This would be a very good moment for you to teleport”*

I look at her *“That’s not how it works. I think… I don’t think I can teleport someone else”* My tone regretful, with panic hinting at the sides

She lets go of my arm *“New plan: Run.”* We turn around–And sprint in the opposite direction

It doesn’t take long for them to start firing, bullets whiz past us at incredible speed

One almost hits but a blue field suddenly glows around me and it drops midair

Bullet blocking? Why couldn’t that ability appear earlier?

Evelyn sees the blocking and doesn’t seem to be worried

*“Ummm… what was that\!?”* I ask her, yelling over the deafening sound of the machine guns

She looks at me with a confused expression and points at her ears

Great, She can’t hear me

I try to yell at her again, this time louder, but my mouth doesn’t open

I look confused for a moment, before I hear her voice–No her thoughts loud and clear over the sound of the bullets *“Cool, You even have Telepathy”*

I can communicate with my thoughts now?

Could this fight get any weirder?

The bullets flying around us disappear and we appear in a *Blinding* white void

Did I have to tempt fate?

We both stop running almost instantly and look at each other in confusion

*“So… Do you have a name for this ability?”* I ask her sarcastically

She looks around in awe *“yes, I haven’t seen this in person before though, I’ve only heard stories. It’s called Void” she says, an excited edge to her voice*

*“Very descriptive name” I comment sarcastically*

She glares at me *“What would you prefer? Great emptiness?”* She says a hint of annoyance on her voice

I don’t answer for a second *“Not really, void is fine…”* I say my a tone of acceptance

*“So…”* I say in a bored tone *“Do we just stay here a while, or…?”*

*“Pretty much”* She says *“Unless you want to go back to those agents”*

*“**Nope.**”* I say almost before she finishes talking

*“Then relax, and maybe summon some food, I’m famished”* she says, her tone dull, like creating things out of thin air is completely normal to her

*“Summon food…?”* I ask, my voice hesitant with a hint of disbelief

*“Yes, The void is an ability that allows you to make a space with whatever you want in it”* She says this slowly like she’s explaining polynomials to a 2 year old

*“So what, Do I just think about Ramen and it appears?”* I ask her

*“Basically, whatever you think of should become reality”* she says boringly

*“Ok…”* I try to think of ramen and a moment later several steaming hot bowls of teriyaki ramen appears on a table in between us

My eyes widen and I pick up the fork and start eating it quickly

She just stares at me for a second, then chuckles *“You’re a slob”*

*“So?”* I say *“Do you have a problem with ramen?”*

Her face turns defensive *“No, no, I didn’t mean that. I just meant you eat it extremely messily”*

*“Gosh, I’m starting to think you **want** to go back to the real world”* I say sarcastically

*“No\! I do **not** want to go back there right now”* She says her eyes widening, her voice shaky

*“Just teasing you, You would die instantly if I did that.”* I say, my voice having a hint of amusement on it

*“Please don’t do that, you almost had me thinking you were serious for a moment…”* She says, her voice still shaky but starting to stabilize.

**Chapter 5: limits**

We stayed in the void for quite a while eating, I turn to her *“So… Are there any limits to this power?”* I ask, my voice curious

*“Not that I know of” she says “Why?”*

*“So I can just think of you being more beautiful? Wait, no, that’s impossible”* I say

Her face turns slightly red and she looks away *“Is it possible for you to not flirt for more than 5 minutes?”* She asks

*“Nope”* I say instantly, my voice clear and steady, without any doubt

She signs *“Just keep it to a minimum then, can you at least do that…?”* She asks, her tone soft with annoyance on top, but beneath that–Other things; Amusement? Fear? Affection? Hard to tell, but there’s something else there. I know it.
