Chapter 1: WHAT!?
I woke up--Just as tired as always. I stayed up till 3AM playing Video games. I groan, looking over at my alarm clock *7:00 already...?*, I slowly get up and walk downstairs. The floorboards creek slightly as I descend. I can hear the TV playing in the other room, but I can't make out what they're saying yet. I move towards it and can finally tell what they're saying. The television plays "Breaking news: A string of several similar killings all across the country is being scooped up by conspiracy theorists. More on this at 7:15". Great *just* what we need; more conspiracy theories. I *groan*, what is there not a conspiracy theory about?
I go to the kitchen to get something to eat. I make my way around the island in the middle of the kitchen, try *not* to run into it in my half asleep stupor. I stop in front of the cupboard and slowly reach out and grab the handle, opening it. I look at the selection of food and sigh, **great!** Cereal *again*. I turn to my right and open the cabinet, grabbing a bowl. I walk over to the fridge and open it to see... *Great*, no milk either. I trudge over to the counter and pour some cereal *without* milk, the cereal clatters to the bottom of the bowl and settles a moment later.
I pick up the bowl and walk back to the living room, where I promptly collapse onto the couch. To my left my parents sit staring at their phones; probably scrolling facebook or something. To my right sits my little sister, who's **much** younger than me, is sitting in the armchair snoring like nothing in the world mattered, I wish *I* could sleep like that.
I groggily start to eat my cereal, I'm so tired I miss my mouth the first few times, but eventually the food makes it to my mouth. Yum... dry cereal. I turn to face my mom, who's *still* looking at her phone. "So..." I say slowly "Are we doing anything today?", she glances up from her phone "Not that I know of". **YES**, finally a day where I can lounge around and do whatever the heck I want. Or so I thought for about half a second before the wall to my left exploded inwards and a large shadow casts shade over the living room. My eyes widen in shock "What the..." I start to say before my father jumped to his feet faster than I thought possible, my mother close behind him. "Shit" she muttered under her breath, she glanced back at us for a moment, she speak a word, but the message was clear, *run*.
But we didn't, both me and my sister are paralyzed with shock. She quickly turns back to the--whatever it is, and pulls out a *sword*, how in the world she concealed a sword I don't know, but it has a bright red gem in the hilt, glowing softly with amber light. She raises the sword in the direction the beast and charges, so does my father who revealed a similar but smaller weapon--a golden dagger with a bright red gemstone in the hilt. They didn't get far, as soon as they got within 10 feet of the thing it swiped its arm in a simple quick gesture, and the flew aside. Dead? Unconscious? I can't tell, but they don't move, completely motionless.
I'm not sure *why*, but I run towards my sister, covering her with my body--just in time for the beast to charge directly at us. I close my eyes and brace for the worst, but I don't feel any pain, just a strange... Warmness. I slowly open my eyes to see the beast stopped in its tracks just feet away from us, by a shimmering gold wall that glows with a strangely comforting light. I blind a few times, somehow in more shock than before. *Crap* was the last thing that went through my mind before everything fades to black.
I wake up to people in black suits rushing around the house. I look down, my sister looks unharmed, but is staring and me wide eyed; scared, not of the monster, of me. One of the agents walks over–A girl, probably about my age. She kneels down to my level and looks into my still wide eyes, “We got two survivors over here!” she shouts, like we’re not right in front of her. She looks at us for a moment before her expression softens and reaches out, placing her hand on my shoulder “rest now”.
I don’t remember falling asleep, but I did. I woke up in a different environment, bright white fluorescent lights pulse softly above me, white walls hidden by walls of machines and cabinets, the air smelling strongly of antiseptic.
